student leaders advocate in Juneau, March 16-17

WHAT: student government leaders will be meeting in Juneau for the 34th annual Legislative Affairs Conference. Over four days, 30 students will be advocating the importance of higher education to elected officials.

The public is also invited to join the student Rally for Higher Education on Monday at noon on the steps of the State Capitol Building.

WHO: 30 student government leaders from Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Southeast.

Rally speakers include: former UAS Chancellor John Pugh, Nick Bursell, president of the UAS Juneau campus student government , USUAF Senator Audrey Kirby and Kachemak Bay Student Zobeida Rudkin.

WHEN: Legislative Conference: Saturday-Sunday, March 16-17

               Rally for Higher Education: 12 p.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, March 18

WHERE: State Capitol, 120 4th Street in Juneau

WHY: Student leaders will advocate to their legislators and share their stories about how the 41 percent cut in state funding will affect their lives and impact their communities.
